Aim:
The aim of this course is to provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of holistic care and relevant issues when caring for an individual with dementia.
On completing this study day participants will:
- Overview of Dementia : types of dementia, diagnosing, recognizing the signs of dementia.
- Communication and Dementia: the process of communication, the impact communication has on a person with dementia, the significance of effective communication.
- Palliative Care and dementia: Overview of palliative care.
- Recognising and understanding psychological and behavioural expressions of dementia.
On completing this study day participants will:
- Understand the different forms of dementia and identify the associated signs and symptoms.
- Gain knowledge on effective communication strategies and approaches when caring for an individual with dementia.
- Gain an insight into the philosophy of palliative care in relation to dementia.
- Be aware of proving person-centred behaviour support in relation to psychological and behavioural expressions of dementia.
